Can Dogs Eat Cucumber?

Why

Cucumbers are mostly water and contain very few calories, which makes them a good snack for overweight dogs. They also provide small amounts of vitamin K and other nutrients.

Pickles are different. They are high in salt and are often flavored with garlic, onion and spices.

What to watch out for

• Choking if pieces are too large
• Gas or loose stools from eating a lot
• Pickles and seasoned cucumber salads

How to serve it

• Wash and slice into rounds or sticks suited to your dog's size.
• Serve plain, fresh or chilled.

How much?

Several slices; it is one of the lowest-calorie treats available.

Treats, including human foods, should make up no more than about 10% of your dog’s daily calories.
